10 Most Exciting Things From The 2010 World Cup
1.Luis Suarez
The infamous hand ball by Luis Suarez. Yes, it was dirty. And yes, it made the World Cup that much more exciting. The fact that he got away with it (he got a red card but Uruguay moved on to the semis) made it all worth it.
2.The pretty fans
The pretty fans. Not the ugly ones, but those beautiful women creating a spectacle of their own in the stands and at Fan Fests. Larissa Riquelme and her attributes, a perfect example.
3.Making fun of France
Making fun of France. The French catastrophe turned tragically comedic when we realized we were looking at one of the most expensive teams in the world play like amateurs and act like children. And do not get us started on that Domenech guy…
4.The Uruguayan national anthem
The Uruguayan national anthem. Not only was it more fun to hear than the average national anthem, but it became the soundtrack for the surprise team of the tournament.
5.Sara Carbonero
Sara Carbonero. The most beautiful face we saw in the whole tournament. And we got to see it often, thankfully. Plus, that whole ending with Casillas kissing her in front of the whole world, it was just damn good television.
6.The U.S national team
The US national team. Simply put, the squad with the most courage, tenacity and the biggest you-know-what of the whole tournament.
7.The Diego Maradona sideshow
The Diego Maradona sideshow. Say what you will about his ability as a coach, but his moves, faces and gestures from the sideline showed true passion for the sport. Diego was the 12th player dressed in a suit.
8.The closing ceremony
The closing ceremony. It was short, to the point, and they got the Waka Waka out of the way first, which was a good decision. Then they proceeded to wow us with an amazing technological display of lights and animation. One word: awesome.
9.Diego Forlan
Diego Forlan. The most consistent player of the tournament where the stars flopped. He was key for his team and gave us some amazing goals. The rightful owner of the Golden Ball.
10.Paul the Octopus
